Sweet Emotion

Posted on

I wanted to discuss things are sweet. Let me start by saying the other night I watched the season finale of American Idol. I saw bits of it throughout the season, I’m not really into that show. However, I caught Aerosmiths performance during the finale and I thought it was pretty sweet! I like Steven Tyler, I won’t lie. I find him oddly endearing and I dig his eccentric style. Plus, I always love to tell the story about the song Dude(Looks Like a Lady) came from a comment Steven Tyler made about Vince Neil  from Motley Crue. I had a pretty big Motley Crue stage in 2005, but that is a story for another day. Liv Tyler is also pretty sweet isn’t she? So pretty…

So let’s get back on track here, shall we? My reason for talking about all of this sweetness has more to do with taste of sweetness.

I used to big a big diet soda drinker, as well as diet iced tea, etc. I am ashamed of how many diet drinks I used to consume. While they may be calorie-free, they are full of harmful chemicals and they aren’t good for you!

For the most part, I don’t consume diet drinks (or regular for that matter) anymore. I try to avoid artificial sweeteners as much as I can. These days I drink mostly water, La Croix (sparkling water with natural flavor, it’s awesome), and I use a packet of Truvia in my coffee in the morning.

I don’t use regular sugar either. I know there are still mixed reviews on Stevia and Truvia, but I am okay with using a packet a day in my coffee.

Since making these changes to my diet and not consuming artificial sweeteners or sugar for the most part, I’ve noticed my perception of what is sweet has changed. I took a sip of a diet iced tea recently and thought I might gag. I find if pretty interesting and if anything it reinforces my choice to avoid consuming artificial sweeteners.

Now, I am no saint. I have an occasional diet soda, but I am trying to make it a rare occasion thing. I won’t lie to you, I miss my Diet Dr. Pepper. Some people say that quit soft drinks and don’t miss it. I’m not one of those people. I am someone who is willing to make the sacrifice to cut it out of my diet to feel better and be healthier.

I feel like this post went all over the place. Maybe I was just looking for an excuse to post about Steven Tyler and Aerosmith…

Final thought, the more I type the word sweet the more it looks weird and wrong. Strange!

Do you consume artificial sweeteners or avoid them? Do you find Aerosmith sweet? Let’s discuss…

  1. Aerosmith is the only artificial sweetner I need. Wait, that doesn’t make sense…

  2. I’ve never liked the taste of artificial sweetener! It has always left a bad taste in my mouth. When I was attempting to make my coffee and bring it to work, I bought powdered goat’s milk (I was trying to cut dairy out) and organic sugar cane crystals (I think?) Both were tasty but I’m not a morning person and couldn’t do it daily haha.

  3. Me and real-sugar soda have a very turbulent relationship. I drank it religiously as a kid, but when I started eating better I gave it up completely. I find that I really have to go cold turkey on it, otherwise it’s easy to have it every day. I can’t have it on occasion, unfortunately. What I do, though, is I splurge on fancy sodas every now and then that do not contain HFCS – mostly root beers.

My life would be so much easier if I just didn’t like soda. 😦
